Insect popularization programmes
In our interactive, scientific audio-visual presentation, we speak about the interesting habits, habitats, and the natural history of insects based on the scientific stories from the insect world. 70% of the earth’s total biodiversity are insects but we are hardly aware of our tiny neighbours. We have designed lectures for the students to ignite the curiosity in their minds which will help them understand the world of insects around us. These lectures contain both theory and interesting practical sessions in the field to get hands on learning about insects. We believe that through our efforts, we can foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world among the students and people, which will help in the conservation of insects.
Mitrakida documentaries
Mitrakida Foundation has produced documentaries on insects which are available for screening.
Rural and urban schools/colleges
We deliver scientific talks on insects and field trips for schools and colleges in rural and urban areas. Through these interactive presentations, we inspire students to study insects and give them small projects to increase their appreciation for nature.
Wildlife week
During the celebration of the Wildlife Week in October, animals like tigers, elephants, and birds often take the spotlight, overshadowing smaller yet vital creatures like insects. We produce and screen documentaries and deliver lectures to bring insects too in the limelight as there is a need to celebrate and conserve insects which play a critical role in ecosystem.
National Moth Week
Every year, Mitrakida Foundation celebrates Moth Week by organizing field-based moth camps to demonstrate that moths are just as important and captivating as butterflies. We travel extensively to showcase the beauty of moths in various locations, while educating communities on how they can contribute to moth conservation efforts.
Fireflies Awareness
During firefly season, we educate people on the importance of fireflies and why we should create safe habitats for them. We also demonstrate how to observe fireflies responsibly so that they are not disturbed in the process.
